Cloche Glass Domes

These delicate folk art pieces were originally a French marriage memorabilia dome from the 1850's. Domes made of glass with a wood base,  these were also seen as decorative objects in Amana homes. They display a variety of scenes, themes and objects and came in a variety of shapes and sizes. Often sold in pairs, some called them " Valentine's" and given as gifts to display.  Figures, made of wax or Cottle bone, and flowers were popular. Nativities were also made. Very collectible, these domes can be bought at Amana auctions and antique shops now but once imported from Germany and were purchased at the old General stores.
