Some of the trades and assignments of men in early Amana Colonies included cabinet maker, carpenter, Cooper, wagon maker, and tool maker. They all included using local wood and many good tools in the many home and factory workshops. There are still fine old hand made pieces which have done service for a century or more. The best a person could make in wood was the standard, and very impressive it was.
