Amana tinsmithing shops were fully equipped with machinery imported from Germany and Chicago. The tinsmiths provided most of the utensils used in the community kitchens, as well as for winemaking, butchering, and other industries. The star-shaped wedding cake (Sternekuchen) mold was popular for weddings. It was mainly a marble cake. These pans were large as baking for many was the rule. They were octagon with 4 points and rounded corners which either had a square or a round center. This opening ensured the cake would bake evenly. No two molds matched as they were all beautifully handcrafted.
