Survey Tool

As a surveyor, Friedrich Hahn, originally from Germany, would measure lot lines around the Amana Colonies when boundaries needed definition. He had special tools for this physical work for which he had great interest at an early age.  Scientific American magazine intrigued and inspired him to learn lots. He explored new ways of doing things constantly and was soon assigned to the village machine shop where he gained mechanical/technical skills.  his special too, the Survey Transit Level in its wooden case, was very unique as was his talent.  After an outdoor accident with a wagon, he became a renowned clock maker as he had to do less physical work.
